MyREN helps upgrading the research activities

The launching of Malaysian Research and Education Network (MyREN) is the starting point

for the development and achievement of the research and educational activities at

Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) through the use of high-capacity technology for

more rapid and accurate collaboration work.

UMK Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dato' Dr. Mortaza Mohamed

explained that the University is hoping that the researchers in the education community

will start employing MyREN as part of their research activities.

He said the MyREN network is now believed to offer great benefits and advantages

to researchers and organisations through research discussions or seminars using

High Definition (HD) video conferencing.

"UMK first joined MyREN in August 2010 during the joint Seminar in Virtual / 3D Workspace:

Open Cobalt Project by video conferencing," he added.
He was discussing this while opening the MyREN road show programme at UMK

Temporary Campus in Pengkalan Chepa, Kota Bharu, Kelantan on December 16, 2010.

MyREN was officially launched by Minister of Energy, Water and Communications and Deputy

Minister of Higher Education on March 28, 2005 as a platform that provides high-capacity

bandwidth to universities, colleges, research organisations and scientific laboratories.

This broadband network funded by the government allows researchers to conduct

intensive-data applications, share computer-related knowledge and run sophisticated

applications in Malaysia and abroad alike.
