KUANTAN: Universiti Malaysia Pahang’s (UMP) subsidiary, UMP Holdings Sdn Bhd (UMPH) and Centre for Continuing Education and Professional Development (Cenfed) gave away RM1.08mil in appreciation to the university’s support for the last six years.
The UMPH contributed RM1mil while Cenfed presented RM85,689.53.
UMPH chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman said it was the first time such contribution was made to UMP since the subsidiary’s inception in 2004.

“We value the close co-operation rendered by the university, lecturers and consultants in helping to boost UMPH’s development.
“As for Cenfed, it has continued to be a major role in providing re-training and professional development courses, education and skills development programmes for local industry and community,’’ he said.
Abdul Aziz added Cenfed was the authorised training provider for several Government agencies.
He also said UMPH had purchased several land lots in Gambang totalling to 240,000 sq m.
“The land can be utilised to build more infrastructure to boost learning and teaching activities in UMP Gambang campus.
“Earnings derived from renting out such facilities including the present infrastructure such as the sports complex, analysis laboratories, lecture halls and empty land in Gambang will help to boost our revenue,’’ he said.
On the contribution, Abdul Aziz said it was in line with the Government’s call for public university to generate 30% of their own income and UMP was able to do so.
He lauded efforts by UMP which had successfully set up another subsidiary, UMP Green Technology Sdn Bhd, which was expected to yield a sum of RM2.1mil annually.
“As for next year, UMPH had set a target of RM4mil in revenue by venturing into more engineering and information technology activities.” he said.
Also present at the dinner were Higher Education Ministry deputy secretary (loan management and financial marketing) Maliami Hamad, UMP vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Daing Nasir Ibrahim, deputy vice chancellor (research and innovation) Datuk Dr Rosli Mohd Yunus, UMPH chief executive officer Mohamad Nazri Musir, Cenfed acting director Jamil Basri and board of director member and Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) managing director Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh.
