ICOCI 09 Gathers Informaton Technology Experts from 11 Countries

Sintok, 16 June: Due to the encouraging entry of particapants in 2006, Universiti Utara Malaysia College Arts and Sciences (UUM CAS) is again about to hold the International Conference on Computing and Informatics 2009 (ICOCI 09) this 24th and 25th June.

With the theme of “Innovative, Imaginative and Creative Ideas in the Digital World”, this conference is to be held at the Legend Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

This conference aims at gathering the academicians, researchers, experts from the industry as well as students from various fields and backgrounds to share and spread relevant knowledge related to the current topics in line with the conference’s theme.

Amongst others, the 94 work papers that wll be presented will touch upon topics such as theory, analysis, design, efficiency, implementation, and application that are not only in the fields of computing and informatics, but also in other related professions.

The countries that are being represented in the conference include Malaysia with 80 presenters, India with four entries, Indonesia led by two particapants, while Pakistan, Iraq, Kuwait, Yemen, United Kingdom, Iran, Jordan and Australia each have a single representative presenting at this conference.

Two renowned professors from overseas have been invited to give the keynote address during this ICOCI. The first is Prof. Masato Koda from Graduate School of Systems and Information Engineering, University of Tsukuba, Japan, who will be giving a talk on “Operations Research and Knowledge Modeling in Data Mining”.

The other comes from the fields of Strategic Information Management at Edith Cowan University, Western Australis, namely Prof. Craig Standing, who will be presenting the topic of “Innovating with Information Technology: Challenges for Organizations and Universities”.

The Conference Chairperson of ICOCI, Prof. Dr. Ku Ruhana Ku Mahmud stated that UUM CAS sincerely encourages entry from all fields to present their work papers based on their research at this conference.

“Some of the better work papers will be choosen by evaluating panel to be published in the Journal of Information and Communication technology (JICT), UUM,” she continued.

She added that due to the encourageing support and growing demand from various interested parties, ICOCI for the following year may be held in joint cooperation with universities outside the country and subsequently, this conference may be held in international waters.

“For those who are not able to become a presenter at this conference, they can still attend the ICOCI 09 as a participant because they have opportunity to form research networks with other researchers and academicians both locally and internationally,” she added.

This time around, the special attraction of the conference is the entry by a famed local animation company in Malaysia, Les Copaque Production Sbn. Bhd., which has been behind the prouction of the popular animated TV series as well as the country’s first fully animated 3D feature film called “Upin dan Ipin”. This local production company is represented by its director, Mohd Nizam Abdul Razak, who has been specially invited to give a talk titled “Animation: Malaysia’s New Experience”.

The Minister from the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili, is also expected to attend to complete the officiating ceremony for the conference. As many as 200 participants consisting of academic staff, researchers, and students from all over the country and internationally are expected to make this ICOCI a great success.
